Frequently Asked Questions
What are remainders?
Remainders are books which no longer sell fast enough to meet the publishers
accounting needs. These books may in fact still be nearly best sellers, but the
warehouse space is needed for the next best seller. Many remainders were
originally over priced and sell better as remainders than they did at full
price. The publishers sell remainders to remainder wholesalers who in turn sell
them to retailers. Remainders are the best opportunity for booksellers to
increase profit margins, individualize their stores, and build customer loyalty
all in one transaction.
What are hurts?
Hurts are returns from retailers who buy books on a returnable basis from
publishers. The publishers sell these returns to wholesalers rather than sort
them out and put them back into circulation. Unlike remainders, hurts are often
still in print and may include current best sellers. Most hurts are actually in
very good condition, though some do show minor signs of wear. bzOverstock will
not ship damaged books and stands behind every order.
What is a remainder mark?
Publishers mark remainders and hurts with a small black line or
dot on the bottom or top edge to prevent the books from being returned in error
by retailers. While not all remainders are marked, most are. Please
assume that any book you buy from bzOverstock is marked.
Can anyone buy from bzOverstock?
No, we only sell to retailers and non-profit institutions such as libraries and
schools. When you register to establish an account online, you will be asked
for your Federal Tax ID number or other proof of tax exemption.
Is there a minimum purchase requirement?
Yes, a minimum purchase requirement is necessary to prevent retail customers
from shopping at bzOverstock. Our minimum is designed to make it easy for you
to order often, especially if you are paying with a credit card. Order only
$100 or more if paying with a credit card. If you wish to be invoiced and pay on 30 day terms, your order must total at least $500, still an easy number to hit with all our great titles.
Does bzOverstock publish catalogs?
Not at this time, since we are offering so many titles in such short quantities.
However if you wish we will e-mail you lists in excel or print and mail lists
to your specifications. Just ask. You can also download the live inventory from
our site by clicking on Inventory in Excel.
Is there a shopping cart?
Yes. When you are placing your order you will see our quantity on hand. While
you are adding books to your shopping cart, these quantities will not change.
As soon as you place your order those quantities will drop by your order
Does bzOverstock sell assortments?
Yes, we have several popular assortment categories. Please browse our
selections under the skids tab.
How does bzOverstock determine shipping charges?
Unless you instruct us otherwise, we will ship your order using the most
economical method we can find with a quality carrier.
Does bzOverstock ship anywhere in the world?
While we are happy to sell to customers based in any part of the world, we
only ship to addresses within the United States. If you do not have a U.S.
shipping address and would like suggestions and contact information for some
freight forwarders that we commonly deal with, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
